About | Bio
Julian Moreen is an exciting new singer-songwriter and pianist from Germany whose unique blend of acoustic piano and electric guitar creates an atmospheric, yet driven soundscape that unfolds somewhere between folk music, modern jazz and indie rock. Paired with his expressive voice, his music is narrative, almost meditative at times, only to soon again “burst with the energy of a late summer storm” (German Newspaper BZ, 2018).
The common theme of his songwriting is that of storytelling. Musically and lyrically, his songs take listeners on an “often melancholic, yet optimistic” journey, looking at the world the way it is, but with the glass always half full. Here, his poetic lyrics build on beautiful melodies interweaved with subtle harmonies, world rhythms and vibrant grooves, while always leaving room for improvisation by the unique voices of his stellar band.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he moved to New York and started soon to perform regularly at clubs in the city. In fall 2018, he went on his first Asia tour with 22 dates in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan including national radio and news appearances. In 2019, he recorded his first EP and went on a second tour of Asia, which now included major concert venues, universities and an invitation for a mainstage performance at Taichung Jazz Festival in front of an estimated fifty-thousand people.
He currently lives in Heidelberg, Germany, where he is working on his debut album.
